Manager, Accounting
Location: Safford, Arizona
Role Type: Onsite / In-Person (100%)
Salary Range: $110,000 - $155,000 annually
Bonus: 15%-30% annual incentive
Relocation: Relocation assistance may be available based on candidate location
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Manager, Accounting to lead and manage the accounting and finance functions at our Safford, AZ site. This role is responsible for planning, organizing, and directing all accounting and financial activities while ensuring compliance with GAAP, company policies, and state and federal regulations. As a key member of the site leadership team, the Accounting Manager will contribute to strategic planning, budgeting, and operational decision-making.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, organize, manage, and control daily accounting and finance operations for the site
- Direct financial and accounting functions including:
- Tax activities
- Internal auditing
- Budgeting and forecasting
- Accounts payable and receivable
- Payroll
- Receipts and disbursements
- General ledger and journal entries
- Fixed assets
- Financial statements, cost reports, and analysis
- Ensure all accounting activities are completed accurately and on time
- Prepare profit & loss statements, forecasts, and historical financial analysis
- Compile and manage the annual budget; provide variance analysis and cost-reduction recommendations
- Develop, implement, and evaluate short- and long-term accounting department goals and programs
- Ensure compliance with GAAP, company policies, and applicable state and federal regulations
- Collaborate with site leadership on tactical and strategic planning initiatives
- Support department heads with budget preparation and financial guidance
- Provide management with financial insights, recommendations, and audit firm selection support
- Evaluate and manage vendor relationships for accounting and financial services
- Represent the site on company-sponsored steering teams
- Lead, coach, and evaluate accounting staff performance
- Perform additional duties as required
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a closely related field plus:
- 7+ years of broad-based accounting/reporting experience
- 3+ years of management or leadership experience
- OR
- Master's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a closely related field plus:
- 5+ years of broad-based accounting/reporting experience
- 3+ years of management or leadership experience
- Advanced knowledge of accounting principles, budgeting, and financial analysis
- Knowledge of state laws, regulations, and guidelines governing mining operations, including auditing, purchasing, risk management, budgeting, and accounting
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to draw sound conclusions
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and financial systems/databases
- Strong leadership, communication (written and verbal), and team-development skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in the mining industry or other heavy industrial environments
Work Environment & Conditions
- Work is primarily office-based, with occasional time spent in mine, outdoor, or manufacturing environments
- Ability to work in a potentially high-pressure environment
- Must be able to understand and communicate work and safety instructions in English
- Physical requirements include standing, sitting, climbing stairs, manual dexterity, and occasional lifting up to 25 lbs
- Personal protective equipment (PPE) required when working in operational environments (hard hat, safety glasses, hearing protection, safety footwear, etc.)
